Because your premise is wrong. "the elites" don't rule unilaterally, they do so with power granted to them from the votes of the parasites, the immoral, and the chronically worthless. People who, in the past, had no political say because we understood how fuckin stupid it would be to let the iniquitous have a say in governance.
"Democracy" is hand in hand with the first sin. The first lie. The false god of equal.
Votes don't grant you power. Did you learn nothing from Trump's time in office? He could get absolutely nothing done, because when you're going against the elites, you're swimming against the tide.
If voting threatened the power of the elites, they simply would not allow you to vote. The current system exists because it benefits the elites.
When exactly was that? And what is your proposed solution that definitely cannot be abused to disenfranchise the right even further?
An actually democratic system would solve the stuff that you complain about. Most of which are not the wishes of the people, but that of a cabal of elites, who actually rule the roost under the pretense of 'democracy'.
