Most of eastern Washington and Oregon dealt with it in that way. One guy tried to start a riot in Spokane, and the protesters shouted him down and helped the police arrest him. Then the protests stopped entirely.
This is why the riots are happening in specific places. If things the blue side likes gets destroyed, the rioters will be murdered. If they arrive at red areas, they get shot. Powell's books has destruction all around it, but no one went after it. There's a part of Portland called Milwaukee that has a blue area surrounded by red. The riots stopped a few blocks away from one of my favorite gun stores. In Seattle rioters attacked a mall in an area called Tukwilla. The locals stopped them and riots did not return. The neighborhood in Tukwilla are very mixed, and there is a large Polynesian population that personally stopped the riots hands on.
Lol, why would looters loot a bookstore? The same thing happened a year or so back in the bad South Africa riots. I saw heartbreaking footage of a mall where a music store owner was just devastated at the destruction of his store--just senseless destruction of instruments and property. Other stores in the mall--clothes, music, jewelry, etc., had been completely emptied out. The only untouched store in the whole mall? The bookstore.
Reverse Fahrenheit 451, burn everything but the books.
Powell's is 5 stories high and a city block long. It's one of the big things locals talk about. They also stopped from attacking Ground Control a local arcade. There was definitely no go spots, and targets.
I was in Seattle a few months ago, and I was SHOCKED by the number of homeless, the aggressiveness of panhandlers (trying to hand you stuff and then shake you down to pay for it), and the trash everywhere. First time I had been there since pre-Covid. Wtf Seattle. It always had some grit, but this was way worse.
