DeSantis should not be alienating anybody, unlike Trump. That's just smart politics, which Trump lacked because his ego got in the way.
There is nothing wrong with Paul Ryan. He was a good pragmatic fiscal conservative. Trump just was a huge asshole to him so he obviously doesn't like Trump, but it's not like he started it. Trump loves to talk shit about everyone.
The only way the Right is going to win is by building a majority coalition, and that will never happen with all this bullshit purity testing. The sooner Trump gets flushed the sooner we can get back to intelligent tactical and strategic politics and start winning.
No Republican can win the presidency these days without keeping the MAGA base and winning the rust belt states.
DeSantis will expand the Republican coalition by not turning off suburban voters. DeSantis is smart enough to realize that Paul Ryan is a major liability.
The MAGA base absolutely hates Paul Ryan and he is electoral poison in the rust belt.
Paul Ryan's endorsement is a net loss.
I am fully DeSantis 2024 and even I utterly hate Paul Ryan for how he completely sabotaged Trump's legislative agenda from 2017-2018.
Republicans need to expand the coalition but not include poison like Paul Ryan which repels the base.
How? McCain did? But Ryan? Ryan supported the 1 major legislative accomplishment of the Trump era: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_Cuts_and_Jobs_Act_of_2017
Leading Republicans supported the bill, including President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, and Republicans in Congress, such as:[165] Paul Ryan, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives (R-WI)
Speaker Paul Ryan said in November 2017 that they would simplify the tax code so much that 9 in 10 Americans would be able to file their taxes on a postcard.[227] President Donald Trump said on December 13, 2017, that people would be able to file their taxes "on a single, little, beautiful sheet of paper".[227]
A group of 137 economists signed an open letter expressing support for the bill; the letter was touted by President Trump, House Speaker Paul Ryan and the Senate Finance Committee as support for the legislation among economists;
Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell completely derailed Trump's immigration, infrastructure and health care legislative agenda.
These two corrupt swamp creatures were content to pass a tax cut bill and call it a day.
With a Republican trifecta from 2017- 2018, the tax cut legislation was the only thing passed.
What a fucking joke.
I am not the biggest Trump fan here but even I wholly despise the GOP establishment leadership.
Mark my words, the MAGA base hates Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell with the intensity of a thousand suns.
Ron DeSantis would be smart to know and understand this dynamic.
He should expand the Republican coalition but he MUST NOT align himself with hated creatures like McCain, Romney, Ryan and McConnell.
Uhh, because of the filibuster they literally couldn't pass anything except budget bills using reconciliation. So a tax cut was the only thing possible.
Excuse me? WHAT? Trump did not have a "infrastructure and health care legislative agenda", maybe you're thinking of the democrats. It was the Democrats that used "infrastructure" as a chant to squeeze pork into, and health care "legislation" only exists to push for socialism.
And as for immigration, the Republicans supported things like building the wall, but couldn't do it because of the filibuster.
Hard disagree and i don't care anyway. "MAGA", if taken to mean die hard Trump supporters, do not run the Republican party. I don't care about your threats. You'll fall in line and vote for DeSantis, without him kowtowing to your personal vendettas.
