It’s actually pretty insane how bad the war on cash has gotten, where I am…
To the point where banking in person requires a nearly one-hour round trip, and where “my” bank has ripped out their only ATMs in my large town…
In other parts of the country, people are having to travel 5 hours to access those services. 5 fucking hours!!
Payphones are almost completely gone, and most “modern” businesses don’t even take cash, now…
I believe the insane government here also reduced the maximum threshold for cash payments from $10,000 to $5000 (!!), a few years back, so it is just… Insane.
One big centralized “digital” money-hoarding system where you basically can’t even access your own funds, if the bank and/or government deems you “persona non grata”…
That is absolutely where this is headed.
And most people my age/around me couldn’t be happier. Because it’s “convenient” and “safe”, and “I trust these institutions that they know best, and will do the right thing”.
It’s insane. It’s just… Insane. To the point of I cannot see myself living in this country in the future - that level of insane… 😑
Sounds like you should consider transferring your savings to an off-shore bank account. It might come with some inconveniences, but I'm sure that foreigh banks could still provide you with a working credit card, and you'd get a few more layers of separation between your government and your money.

Some stores around here do not accept cash after 6. in the name of safety of course. except this is probably one of the safest areas in town.
