Why cant they be used as military dogs?
Not trainable, just as likely to attack their handlers as anyone else. And I assume no interest in anything related to finding contraband or search and rescue. Although you might be able to get them to do search and rescue, they would probably maul whoever they rescued. I don't think they have particularly keen senses anyway.
Wikipedia links to a few articles about pit bulls being used as drug dogs. I don't know if they're suitable to be trained as passive response dogs, but if you don't mind them scratching or gnawing on the suspect container they're evidently usable for finding contraband.
