This isn't even the first time Dahmer has had media about him. Seems like every few years something about him pops up and opens old wounds for the people who had to live through it.
People just love a visceral horror story, I guess. And there's always going to be someone that wants to cash in on it. So we're going to keep seeing it.
Should he have gotten help? Yeah, he should have. But at the time, the world was a very different place, and getting help was not as easy, sought after, or sometimes even requested. It was still stigmatized. The people that needed the most help were sometimes shunned, or told it was fine. "You're not fucked up, you just have bad thoughts sometimes. Just ignore them, they'll go away."
Lots of things led to him doing what he did, and many times before it, he could have been stopped. But that never happened.

Therapy would not have helped Dahmer. A straight jacket and padded room would have been the only solution

Before his first capital crime I wouldn't have supported that. After the first one he should have been ole yellered
