Did you know Mohammed Atta was talked into committing it by his mother, who desperately wanted to get the US to start a war so men would get killed.
I wouldn't be terribly surprised.
But no, it wasn't over 9/11. The reason for invading Afghanistan was their treatment of women, after a video of a woman being executed was shared widely.
We later found out she was executed for murdering a man in cold blood and fully deserved it.
