Digital can still have the same problems. A hard-drive goes and there's a reasonable chance it won't be recoverable. Ideally, multiple points of storage is the solution, both physical and digital, but that's not really practical for the vast majority of people.
Of course, but its a lot easier to have multiple digital backups simply because harddrives will continue to be produced, thereby allowing you to have backups on your backups for cheap and minimal space. Whereas the physical likely has long stopped being made and will only increase in price, making it very hard to replace any broken bits.
Point being, backup and then have more backups. Physical is great, but time and physics will do its thing to them so actually using them is not always ideal.
You can make more physical backups, DVD burning isn't exactly the hardest thing to get into (compared to decades gone by with things like VHS), but I do get what you mean.
