I personally suggested that due process needed to be followed, and that people were jumping onto the bandwagon of mob mentality...
Got downvoted to oblivion, sworn out of the room, sent death threats ("read the room, you pathetic cunt" then became "if I crossed you in the street, I would kill you"), and then banned by the mods, for being an "antivaxxer" (due purely to the fact that I had previously posted in anti-lockdown subs, so really, that was a bullshit excuse. I guess "banned for wrongthink" is too blatant, lol), before I could respond to any of that...
Jesus...
The Rugby League sub did something similar, last weekend, after pointing out that Aboriginal players celebrating the Queen's death was not a great look...
The combination of sport + woke + Reddit has produced a hostility I've not really seen so much elsewhere... It's very cult-like, smh...
If you actually posted on that thread, I'd recommend that you delete and post an archive instead. It's a good idea when it's not archived (>6 months) to begin with, as that can lead to retaliation against this site or the sub, but this could have consequences for your account.
It was meant to be an np link, but obviously it autocorrected to the standard link (somehow) when I posted it...
np makes no difference at all!
There's like 5000 comments there, and they banned my account anyway. I'm not too worried.
I meant a sitewide ban.
If Dom wants to take it down, he can. But nah. Chalk this one up as unintentional, but I really can't be stuffed rn.
I remembered when you earlier posted an archived version of something that was older than 6 months, you said just to be sure, so I thought it was a mistake or something.
Because yeah, I thought np covered my bases, basically…
The archive is there (see above), but it took… Approximately an hour, after this post, for it to process/make it through the digital “queue”…
More generally I guess I’m just a bit more… Blasé, after two spates of death threats from two separate subreddits over two (in theory) separate issues, in one week…
It’s just… Made me care less, perhaps.
But yeah, I did genuinely think the np thing worked.
I’ll put more effort next time. And attempt to avoid more death threats, lol.
I’m sure you’re used to that one. It’s an… Odd feeling, when you know that they aren’t joking. Even if they are keyboard cowards.

Not sure why they think you should be impressed, or why you would be. They don't know who you are. Archive, then report to the admins, and perhaps to the police.

Oh, come now, no reason to bend to people who behave in that manner.
I’m sure you’re used to that one. It’s an… Odd feeling, when you know that they aren’t joking. Even if they are keyboard cowards.
They are impotent losers. Imagine the following. You don't know who someone is. You don't know how someone looks. You nonetheless still say that if you see him, you will kill him.
How pathetic is that? It is the height of impotent rage.
Yeah, it was… Interesting. I’m not worried. I just found it odd watching it go from “Read the room, bigot” to “If I met you, I would fucking kill you and place you and your family’s dismembered bodies on display as an example to others”…
It’s like, well fuck, this is… Something else.
And then the mods banned me, and not them, lol…
Very unusual, twice in one week, but… Circlejerk’s gonna circlejerk!
Yeah, it was… Interesting. I’m not worried. I just found it odd watching it go from “Read the room, bigot” to “If I met you, I would fucking kill you and place your dismembered body on display as an example to others”…
Eh, the mad dogs of the regime gonna mad dog.
First they will try to shame you - conform to the opinions of "the room", or else.
If that doesn't work, they'll try threatening you.
I'm sure they had a third trick up their sleeve as well, if that also had not worked.
TL;dr, I thought np worked, and I probably wasn’t in full “shit giving” mode, because their stupid death threats went from “haha this is amusing” to “oh, shit, that’s… Unexpectedly alarming”.
Apparently internet leftists have rather vivid imaginations, when it comes to that sort of shit.
Anyway, time for an internet break, I think.
We’ve all experienced this by now. Such is our lot.
I've noticed a trend with liberal-minded people online that hail or pretend to hail from communities with historical reputations for being no nonsense. Like Australians, or Glaswegians, and the like. They really ham it up. It's pathetic.
Perspective: Having been there, and having extensive family roots in that area, I think Glasgow has always been fairly left wing (Rangers fans perhaps excepted). It's just that the "definition" of left wing has changed from "working class politics, egalitarianism, trade unions" to... What it is now (essentially, largely the opposite)...
As for Australia... Something changed, I believe, in around the 80s... Theoretically/nominally "left wing" government. Decided to go all in on neoliberalism/"the free market"/globalisation, etc...
Everything has changed, since that time. The nanny state. "Woke" politics. Intrusion by China. Oppressive, extremely restrictive "big government"...
Although one could go back further to Gough Whitlam (1972-75) for the rise of militant activist universities, feminism (largely) and, in particular, divisive Aboriginal idpol...
But oddly, considering all that, it was a conservative government that took away our guns, bullet proof vests, and many, many other "freedoms"...
John Howard (conservative) through Kevin Rudd (leftist) is the period that really made Australia totally unrecognisable (1996 - 2011, approx.)
That "no nonsense" rep you speak of? I think that was well and truly dead by the time of the 2008 "Apology" to the Aboriginals. In fact, I can barely remember it, in my more than a quarter century of life...
I'm not sure quite how they killed it, but the government, media and universities have done a damn "good" job of doing so, unfortunately...
I sincerely fear for the future of this place. I really, really do.
(Unironically) Chinese vassal state 2030, anyone?
That 1980s - 90s "left wing" government I mention? The second leader of that (the only living one, Keating) was a fanatic fan of Indonesia's previous Islamofascist dictator, and now reckons Australia needs to fully "embrace" China, and that we are "losing out" by not, essentially, giving up our foreign policy independence to bow down to their wishes...
I think it’s worth pointing out that this was an internal investigation, instigated by the club itself, and that the Club President (not in power when these allegations apparently occurred, but conveniently there now) used it to fire a culture war salvo, and attack wider Australian culture as “culturally and historically racist”…
This is… Well this has bigger implications than football, I’ll say that much.
Wasn't there an "owner" controversy, like literally last week (was it basketball?), too..?
Was that one "homophobia and sexism", or somesuch? I remember seeing it, but I didn't follow it up.
Call me conspiratorial, but I really do not think that is a coincidence...
It's Grand Final week for that code. One of the two coaches implicated lost a Preliminary Final (essentially a semi) last Friday... Allegedly this "report" concluded two weeks ago, but was conveniently "leaked" by a journalist at the far left public broadcaster three days before the Grand Final, as one of these coaches (the other one to the above) is just about to move back to his old club, for a very large sum of money...
It's all very... Weird. Like you say, we've seen this in the US, multiple times post-Floyd. The allegations are so far-fetched, too (telling someone to force their partner to abort their baby? Telling someone else to drop their pregnant partner?).
It's just... Doesn't seem likely at all. Yet here we are. At "Reddit death threat" level, smh...
Archive (took fucking ages to scrape it all, perhaps unsurprisingly):

I appreciate and understand the general idea though, yes.
np makes no difference at all!

The only true crime is dissent.

Allegations are apparently enough to call for lynch mods
Quite literally yes. I find that most concerning of all.
People there were calling for these men to go to jail, even though, even if the allegations were true, they would not have broken any laws…
And then when I (and others) pointed out the strange hypocrisy of all this - death threats…
This is, frankly, not how I expected the 21st century to go…
We’ve become so tribal, lately, that the rule of law seems to have been completely abandoned, never mind the presumption of innocence…
I saw this coming a decade ago. Even I wouldn’t have expected it to get… Quite this bad.

Frankly, that sounds like treachery, to me...

They want us dead. Never forget that…
Yes, that is… Unironically quite representative of where we are at, I feel…
You can take the puritan out of the (let’s be honest, these days) white, liberal Karen, but you can’t… Take the mindset away, let’s say.
I’m sure there’s a better way of putting that.
Only with the “morals” switched a full 180 degrees, and the targets slightly altered…
