GoG is a better competitor than EGS (and before you start with "But GoG did XXX which proves them in league with Big Feminism(tm), Epic is just as bad if not worse on that front). The only thing EGS has going for it is the periodic free games subsidized with their Fortnite and Tencent money (and even that is of marginal utility IMO since there's already way more games than time out there and a free game you don't really care about is just a waste).
The EGS launcher has been repeatedly shown to be scanning other files on your computer, showing that is at least capable of being spyware, and has ridiculous resource usage (on a good day it's several times what Steam or Galaxy use, and I've seen screenshots of the launcher using north of 5 gigs of RAM)
EGS does not allow even numeric user reviews (just taking them from other online critic sites) or user comments.
EGS still does not have any gifting functionality.
EGS (I believe?) still does not have built-in screenshot functionality
EGS took over 2 years to add foreign currency support
EGS is still continuing with their practice of literal bribery to force timed exclusives on their store.
None of the above are issues for Steam (even though they have been trending towards "correcting" review scores for controversial titles). None of the above are issues for GoG (on newer games. Screenshots are still iffy on some older titles which don't support the Galaxy overlay), and GoG has the advantage of the DRM-free downloads.
But GoG did XXX which proves them in league with Big Feminism(tm)
Epic is just as bad if not worse on that front
GoG is part of an initiative to offer menstrual leave, and exports feminist beliefs all over Poland and Eastern Europe via CDProjekt. They are also known to be collaborating with Netflix.
Epic did a cringeworthy "event" with a pink sky. Even Rocket League, which I personally will never forgive, only ran a women-only tournament. They didn't donate or take part in any feminist causes.
I'm no longer an Epic fanboy, but I still believe they are not as bad as most of their peers. The largest indictment against Epic is that they are working with the famously feminist Match Group on a lawsuit against Apple and Google due to shared interests in being able to bypass Apple/Google fees.
I don't have internal knowledge of what Epic does, but to the best of my knowledge, they are not comparable to the CDPR umbrella of companies in terms of feminist true believers.
Outside of feminism, they have a little more of a patchy record, you might remember they donated $100m from the sales of their war-themed season pass to "humanitarian" causes in Ukraine because of the poor timing of the release. I'm not sure I believe that Zelensky actually let that money help people and not be spent on arms.
I'm not compromising my thoughts to defend Epic. They have no shortage of flaws, a lot of which have been recent.

There is 0 reason to use EGS.
I should also note that Steam likely got away with more than what GOG did because Valve is a bigger company than CDPR.

And Epic doesn't?
Listen I get it, you like Fortnite so you'll die on this hill but at least be consistent.

GOG is literally breaking employment law to discriminate in favor of women.
