Star Trek, Kor (DS9): ""Savour the fruit of life, my young friends. It has a sweet taste... when it is fresh from the vine. But don't live too long. The taste turns bitter after a time."
Yes, we used to think it would be AWESOME to have more Star Trek, more Star Wars, more D&D, more books made into movies, etc. We used to think it would be AWESOME if more people were into geek culture, comic books, video games, etc.
Now we realize how shitty it is.
Nerdy reminder that Kor was the first ever Klingon we saw in Star Trek. He was played by the same actor (John Colicos Dec/28-Mar/00) in both his TOS appearance in March 1967 and his 3 DS9 appearances in March 1994, November 1995, and finally November 1998 15 months before his death.
The above quote comes from the episode with his final appearance where he plays an old warrior who had the "luck" to survive all his previous battles while everyone else he knew died around him.
In the end Kor goes out like all Klingons want to: in battle and like a badass fighting literally 10 to 1 odds in a suicide mission so that the rest of his battle group would reach reinforcements. His death was never explicitly shown as the battle group moves out of sensor range before the fighting concludes.
One of my absolute favorite Trek episodes.
AND... it's a great example of treating fans and the past with respect. Here is Kor, the original Klingon, PLAYED BY THE SAME ACTOR, ~30 years later. As a character old, he's decrepit, he's a bit senile--the modern Klingons mock him even. But damned if he doesn't go out in a blaze of glory that impresses even the scornful modern Klingons.
Such a damn good tribute.
