Too many Republicans including Ted Cruz himself vastly underestimated him in 2018.
2018 Betomania was insane. I have seen pictures and videos of his large crowds in Dallas and Houston and they were just terrifying to see.
His vanity presidential run destroyed his fake moderate image.
Abbott will win comfortably because 2022 Beto is a shadow of his former self and seen primarily as a gun grabber running in Texas of all places.
I live in Tarrant County which isn’t as left as Dallas but it amazes me how liberal the large cities in Texas are
Looks like Abbott will win Tarrant County this year. Trump won it in 2016. Abbott won it in 2018. Cruz lost it in 2018. Trump lost it in 2020.
Thank God that Dallas, Austin, El Paso and San Antonio are not enough to turn the state blue.
Big rural margins, the Hispanic shift and Harris county margins staying close are saving us. Houston is much less bluer than the other big cities. If Houston was as blue as Dallas, things would get bad.
What happened to Dallas? I know elderly people who grew up in DFW and they say Dallas used to be very conservative. Is it all Californians? And should we worry about Tarrant county in the future?
What changed Dallas is two things, Rick Perry and Abbott imported too many tech companies from Silicon Valley into Texas and also because young Texans these days are much more likely to be Democrats.
These two factors drastically changed the demographics of Dallas.
FYI George W. Bush in 2004 was the last Republican Presidential nominee to win Dallas county.
Good news is that COVID spurred the migration of new Republican voters from blue states into many parts of Texas.
I myself fled CA for Texas last year.
I think Tarrant will be a true swing county for the near future. I don't think we should doom about Tarrant but it's future is kinda uncertain at the moment.
I think whether it goes blue or red in a given year will depend on the candidates and the political environment. This year's environment despite the Roe overturn should still be on net beneficial to Republicans since Biden is very unpopular.
Tarrant could go blue for 2026 if we have a Republican president back in office and he has low approvals then.
