I think the best thing conservative politicians should do is instead of the "I don't know this person and denonce anyone who blah blahs" they should instead claim that person was the greatest person they've ever known and make up absurd & awesome heroic things about them.

"Jeremy Mackenzie is my bestest bud in the whole wide world and I once saw him jump into a raging river to save a burlap sap filled with puppies that a CBC reporter threw in."

Because they have no principles beyond what is most likely going to allow them to keep their jobs.
