Implying NATO expansionism legitimizes the Russian invasion
It's not a question of legitimacy, it's a question of provocation. These people often try to conflate the two, especially with the concept of "victim blaming."
If you provoke someone and they punch you as a result, that doesn't mean that them punching you was necessarily "legitimate," but at the end of the day you still ended up getting punched as a result of your actions.
They go with "so and so should know better" as if that fucking means anything.
Their entire stance on self responsibility and accountability is "None".
You could say that a driver should be watching for pedestrians and other hazards at all times, but you're still fucking DEAD if you decide to walk out in front of a car with that as your guarantee that they won't hit you.
This is also why they wanna rant and rave about "teach men not to rape" as if that isn't an inherent moral in the human psyche. Murder, rape, things like that don't just happen. It's not a cultural faux pas that you "just didn't know about".
It's not that they think men can be taught to not rape, they're just so adamant that they deserve to go to a strangers party and get shit faced wasted and blackout in an alley and not be bothered.
Like, yes, technically you don't deserve anything bad, but bad people don't give a fuck you idiot.
It's not a cultural faux pas that you "just didn't know about".
Whoopsie doopsie, I had a sexual emergency, is that not done here in Austria? Didn't know honest!

That's the line they're going with though. And getting off with sentences of just 4 years for it.
But it's also a question of legitimacy - Ukraine isn't Finland or Sweden, who might join NATO out of a grass roots desire to join your mutual defense pact. If Ukraine joins NATO, it will be because American-backed Kievans exercised their rioter's veto to overrule the president's democratic mandate.
Whoever takes some blame, must take all blame. So if the provoker has some share of it by setting up the situation, then they must take all of the blame for it. Which means the attacker is the victim, and the victim is the bad guy.

They exist in a pure black/white world.
