You make a great point. Making great strides after gaining freedom should be something to be proud of. Also you see black people of previous generations having no problems calling themselves Americans. I I certainly don't. I wouldn't have joined the Air Force if I thought this wasn't my country. But you are right, the only issue is that all those that hate America insist on staying in America. Also keep in mind that there are those who have a lot to gain with the hyper-focus on American slavery. In one of his books Sowell talked about how slavery should be taught from a global perspective. I think that would help keep people from obsessing over it.
I did my DNA thing and it showed the West African countries I have ancestry from but considering my African and European ancestors were in America by the late 1700s at the latest I have never considered myself anything but American despite the circumstances of slavery.

In one of his books, TS remarks that the first generation of immigrants are just happy to have a better life, but that the second generation is resentful that they have not caught up to the rest of society - and turns to crime. Obviously, blacks are not immigrants, nor first-generation, but I wonder if the same mechanics apply here.
Also keep in mind that there are those who have a lot to gain with the hyper-focus on American slavery. Remember in Black Rednecks and White Liberals where Sowell was saying imagine how different attitudes would be if slavery were taught from a global perspective so those who use it as a crutch wouldn't be able to since pretty much every group has suffered from slavery?
Who is gaining from it? It's not doing them any good, and probably a good deal of harm. It may feel good to blame your own failings on 'white racism', but this only means that you will miss the opportunities that you do have - why bother when whites will foil you anyway. I see the same with some of the immigrants here in Europe. (If they said that they had to work 10x as hard because of racism and actually did so, it would benefit them. But they don't.)
The only ones who gain from it are race hustlers like Sharpton and the Democratic Party. The interests of their mascots is not a consideration.
That is what I meant. Those who keep wanting to talk about "racial oppression" or push the idea that you can't succeed because the white man is holding you back. Or those who keep talking about slavery in America. I meant the race hustlers. They are the only ones gaining from that mindset. People who swallow that nonsense certainly gain nothing but a victim mindset.
