Why? It's standard political fair to make a generic statement like that. Dem politicians will condemn the attack itself and continue to support policies that put the attackers back on the street. Their words are hollow.
Republicans weren't even on a good track in criminal justice either (First Step Act and assorted BLM sympathizers), but they're at least beginning to respond to the reality that this softer, gentler, BLM-approved criminal justice reform effort is getting people killed.
That's true. Their coverup didn't appear to working, though. Dems actually used to be pretty savvy about "getting ahead" of damaging news. They would have friendly outlets break it to cushion the blow and frame it in the last damaging way.
