There's this weird thing going on with Gen Z/Millennial conservatives saying they don't "ID" as "conservative". They'll say "I'm not conservative I'm right-wing" or whatever word games.
Alex is conservative based on normal people's understanding of the word. He's certainly not a "centrist", although he is a pimp on a blimp eating shrimp.
It's because young people associate conservative with politicians who have done nothing for the right. Republicans really just feel like they've conserved nothing.
But besides that, as a right-winger myself, there are many changes I'd want made. So it's not exactly fair to label myself conservative if I'm not happy with the status-quo.
Labeling yourself as simply right, allows you to distance yourself from the mainstream tradcons.

He's more libertarian unfortunately. I like him but thankfully he'll never be writing laws and I hope he doesn't vote libertarian
