For several decades being law abiding and nice and worrying about others percrptions were considered the ultimate of virtues in the west. Turns out those are only virtues in moderation
I think they are working values. But they require the entire society to embrace those virtues.
When I was a kid my fear when doing something wrong wasn't the cops. I would get a stern talking from them. But they would drop me off at home and inform my family. My parents & grandparents would've ripped me a new one for having the police be involved. "What should our neighbours think?"
Same for dressing like shit or behaving in a shit way "What should the neighbours think"?
And I was punished appropriately by them.
If you look at certain other cultures? Families don't care. No one cares if a kid has been in contact with the police for 100+ times. They are even applauded for it.
Our virtues worked when we had self-correcting systems (families, friends, ...) in place. Police didn't need to be super harsh except for the rare extreme cases.
This is no longer the case, but our society & system hasn't adapted yet.
Other tribes are preventing our system from adapting. If blacks want to commit wildly disproportionate violence and crime, then they should regularly suffer negative interactions with police. It’s not ideal, but it makes sense and works. Now progressive DAs cut criminals loose and police are sued for millions of dollars the moment a black person dies in their custody. Our systems of law and order are being subverted and destroyed in order to empower tribes who refuse to assimilate.
