Is it a paper mache economy though, really? What is an economy? Is it paper money, or the capacity to build real-world things? Also, how does this reconcile with their ability to put out a handful of YouTube videos that cause the entirety of Western Christendom to collapse itself and end Republican Governance over a common cold?
Its paper mache because the stability it has is barely extant. If they didn't throw endless lives into the grinder daily to prop it up, it wouldn't even be able to limp on for a few years. So to answer your question, its the capacity to build real world things. Something they lack because you can physically watch daily videos of their roads, buildings, machines and all else just fail completely because they are made of zipties and hope. They rely entirely on exporting and external funding for those exports to mask their internal chaos.
Also a bunch of towel heads stole a plane and crashed them, which kickstarted over a decade of wars but I doubt you would call the Middle East some super powerhouse either.
Is 99.8% of the world's tangible good manufacturing done in the Middle East?
Your point was a handful of Youtube videos from them somehow taking down the West over a common cold. You are moving goalposts to try and hype them up with big numbers.
Also, a significant chunk of many important Western companies, such as Twitter, are owned by Middle Eastern Princes and our governments are happy to sell us out for Israel/SAE constantly. But you know, I guess that's nothing.
Oh, it's you again. I remember--you're the guy who argues like a girlfriend. "You're doing this!" "You always do that!"
I'm not "doing" anything. I have said things, and you have said things. I think the things you have said in response to the things I have said are largely irrelevant, or are weird left-turn things that really don't have anything to do with what I've said. Telling people what their own "point" is is the argumentative tactic of a real internet-y fucking asshole. You should work on not doing that.
China has proven itself remarkably effective in getting what it wants out of the Western world, in some ways that are obvious, and in many ways I don't think we've even begun to recognize, but whose symptoms are clear. At the same time, they've managed to capture the overwhelming bulk of human beings' ability to make stuff, which is incredibly important. This is what I said, this is what I'm saying now. I don't really care about your opinions about social media and whatever, because social media doesn't make stuff. Maybe, when it comes to the knee-capping of the world economy by way of a global hysteria over a plague that never happened, some Middle Eastern players own the instrument, social media, that allowed this to happen. But they aren't the ones who played it, and that's what I'm interested in.
