While I guess more teenager than child, I have been doing something to make money (from third parties not like my parents paying me) since I was 13 and I've had some sort of "official" job since I was 16. I said when I was in my mid 20s I learned more from work than I ever did from school, and over a decade later I'll still say it.
Jobs are great for children of all ages, age appropriate of course.
That's what the whole lesson about chores and allowance for children is meant to be about. You don't get anything for free. Use your labour and your skills to earn money. Negotiate for better terms if you can.
Yeah, do kids even do chores anymore? Seems to be a lot less common. I can't remember a time I ever didn't. I'm sure when I was small enough but not that I remember.
For better or worse technology has fractioned the amount of chores even available, and most of what's left involve more complex machinery than you can trust younger kids with.
