Just because some shitheads use the name of a previous work does not mean they have anything to do with it.
"Star Wars" 7 8 and 9 are not Star Wars.
The new "Lord of the Rings" is not the Lord of the Rings.
Don't let those who hate you pretend like they are the continuation of authors once respected.
They are skincrawlers; they use the name without any respect for the soul.
Ditto for Star Trek. That one hit me hardest, to be honest. The Star Wars prequels showed me the OG movies were the only ones that mattered, but Trek's skinsuit is being paraded around year on year in the shape of flashy, entirely soulless movies and shows. I so wanted more Trek in my life, and this ain't it.
I like the prequels and at least with them I can appreciate that they were made by someone who actually cares. Can’t say the same for the sequels.
Agreed. The criticism of how boring the politics were, or the ridiculousness of Jar-Jar or even Anakin seem pretty minor compared to what we are dealing with today. The spirit of Star Wars was always there despite the mistakes. I think there was a seriousness behind the production, like an attention to detail, which is completely lacking in the modern films/shows.
They all have this strange modern sheen that does not fit what Star Wars is about. For example, the "shaky cam" visuals of the new shows, or the hardcore music. I see the stormtrooper outfits or the lightsaber battles and I know what it's supposed to be, but the wisdom is totally gone. There doesn't seem to be any deeper meaning behind it anymore. You just go from an abduction, to a chase scene, to a cool space battle, and there doesn't seem to be a point to any of it besides shiny visuals.
The prequels were garbage. Disney somehow being even worse doesn’t change the fact.
What is worse than no more trek? More """trek""".
My friends were genuinely surprised when I wouldn't stop ranting about how much I fucking hated Star Trek: The Undiscovered Lens Flare.
People bitched about ST: ENT, but mother of God, what I would do for just reruns of that and the Star Trek: The Animated Series to be the primary mechanism of selling Star Trek right now.
I can't watch any of the new STD's or variants thereof, it just makes me too annoyed, then too angry, then too embarrassed, and then too sad. Meanwhile, I'm literally getting teary-eyed listening to The Motion Picture's soundtrack.
There's something about it that's just stirring, a level of hope, optimism, adventure, comradarie, and principles that literally no aspect of any part of the political Left are even prepared to understand. They are at best, barely making an effort to appeal to those concepts behind a skinsuit, while being filled with nihilism, fragility, entitlement, resentment, and power-hunger.
