I got into death metal around ~2000. At that point I reached the incredibly named anus.com.* Y'all might laugh, but this was a super reactionary place at that point. I'll always remember the triggering moment for me: a simple question of whether culture determined race (social constructionism), or whether race determined culture. Just that possibility led me down a rabbit hole that never ceased. My nasty right-wing thoughts ever permeated, and after a touch of Sowell, I was done for.
*These days, some of the reviews on the old website are available at deathmetal.org.
--- a little drunk, so including some links:

I had precisely the same experience in South Korea.
I think that world travel and living abroad acts as a vaccination against the colonialist woke retard world view.
What we all need to understand is that we are up against the utmost of authoritarian theocratic ignorance. We are all Galileo. We need to not die and preserve truth. Stay close, build families, build resources, and continue on. We shouldn't be radicals, but we are.
I think it is more being open and understanding of the data rather than living experience, all the living abroad will do is give more opportunity to gather more close linked data that is observed directly by yourself.
(You just reminded me to make sotteok-sotteok later this weekend :P)
I never asked to be given this role. But I am the kind of stubborn asshole who can't just be made to participate in stupid stuff. If I was interested in being popular, I would do that.
Just when I thought hotteok was the pinnacle of street food, you introduce me to sotteok? Now I have to go to Korea because I don't know where the heck I'll be able to find this.
You can make it, it's super easy and you can buy everything at any Asian grocery store. They don't even take long.
I personally do it in my air fryer, but you can use a pan. Message me if you decide to try, I can walk you through it. :D
I made hotteok because of your comment. It's good stuff. :D
