I hope that boys' social networks outside school still provide some alternative socialization. And I don't mean street gangs.
I learned more about life from my peers and family than I ever did in my public school career. Their classroom bullshit only goes so far, if it goes anywhere at all. I dunno. Maybe these days more kids are more involved in and dependent on what happens in school than was the case in the 1970s.
Schoolteachers (especially high school teachers) had always been objects of contempt and ridicule in my social circle and school was something to be avoided except for those classes we were interested in or had girls we were ogling/chasing around.
