My mom used to eat tomato sandwiches when she was a kid. Family had a tomato a tomato farm. Literally tomato, mayo, salt/peppa.
Tried it before. They’re not great..
They aren't great. But BLTs are a thing.
My mother ate tomato sandwiches, as did her mother, and grand mother. I remember seeing my great grand father eat a tomato like an apple.
More than a few people thought my great grand father odd.
Yeah, my mom would eat tomato sandwiches, too. And canned tomatoes, heated on the stove, and tomato soup, and would have tomato juice from time to time.
I remember reading something in a science mag ages ago (around when the Human Genome Project was just getting started) that suggested that dietary preferences came from one's father, and not one's mother.
For me, the taste of unadulterated tomato (ie, all the things listed above) makes me projectile vomit and dry heave for half an hour.
It's weird. I think I'll try and dig that article up. My father and sister are the same way as you. I don't react like that. (great grand father mentioned is on my mothers side)
I think it's a regional thing. In the US south they are so damn easy to grow many people now grow them on their front porch, because why not? It's almost a meme about how "large" your cherry tomatoes got.
But I figure in earlier times they were something that was easy to grow, didn't require much maintenance, and had some nutritional value. So, make a sandwich out of them.
Yeah, where I grew up was mostly known for its corn on the west end of the county, and tomatoes on the other.
Still love me some corn on the cob, though. :)
Just admit you wanted bacon with something filling.
I'll just straight up eat bacon. I never liked tomato alone.
My grandpa used to eat tomato sandwiches so that he could save the money to go see my grandma when they were dating.
