The article is along the lines of "It subverts expectations and moved the focus to a girl instead of a boy so it is good. Includes things like the focus Leia deserves" It does not mention why subverting expectations is good or why does Leia deserve to be the focus of the series.
Yes, but why? There is no argument outside feminism making things about women.
Preaching to the choir, but representation and inclusion are lies. With existing works/companies there's only so many seats at the table. Representing or including some new group means you are representing or including other groups less. But the words make it sound like they are making the pie bigger and giving everyone a piece.
Now obviously they could make new franchises and start new companies that represent and include the groups they want, but they'd rather subvert your favorite stories because they hate you.
Even if focusing on how Leia mirrors her Mom, like how Luke mirrors his Dad, was a good thing, there's one major problem. Padme has nothing to mirror, as she is not really a character. She was in the prequel trilogy for the purpose of eye candy, and because Anakin needed someone to have kids with. We're told she was somehow elected queen as a teenager, but we never see her govern. We're told she became a senator but all she does as senator is make Jar Jar senator so she can run off (err, hide from assassins) with Anakin. And then in Episode 3, all she does is make Anakin worry about her dying in childbirth.
There's nothing there to compare her to, unless they're saying Leia should just be a figurehead and then get knocked up.
