What "bad stuff" they did in, let's say, the entire 2021, a part of your "8 years"? Start listing now.
Taking arms from the Americans to kill Russians & LDNR, vowing to join the EU (bad from Russian POV) and NATO, effectively banning Russian language media and Russian language instruction in schools.
This is all stuff that makes war far more likely.
Now you'll ask: of course they would arm themselves, look at what's going on. To which I will reply, sure, but if you keep arming yourself to the teeth, and the balance of power is likely to shift against Russia, that will make war more likely. Russia would rather attack now rather than wait 5 years as the Americans flood you with weapons.
No one banned Russian language. It was Timoshenko's stupid idea when she was rolled in a wheelchair on a scene fresh out of prison, before she was rolled out and there was the last seen of her.
Go and refresh your memory how Russia kept lying about not going to attack. And how people right here were mocking the Americans for publicising their plans in the hope of thwarting the aggression this way.
Is it not so? A new law requires any media outlet to publish in Ukrainian as well as Russian. New laws restrict Russian language instruction in schools. And they wonder why Russia gets mad...
Not sure why this would shock you. Countries and politicians lie. I do recall an 'Iraq War'. I wonder whether the surprise was more beneficial or the perceived legitimacy that offering an ultimatum would have had.
Not sure why you think Americans would want to oppose a war. If they opposed it, then they really thought Russia would win it quickly, because a long war at the cost of Ukrainian lives is only to the benefit of the imperialists.
If only America did more to thwart its own aggression. Libya and Syria have still not recovered from its mostly peaceful interventions.
