I wouldn't doubt there was rising right wing extremism in Portland. In raw numbers, probably not a huge sum but certainly growing. Because when you are exposed to the worst of one side, who constantly destroy your home and seem to exist entirely as savages without consequence, you get pretty strong stances opposite them.
Just as racism in the South continues to keep its head up, its a self creating cycle.
Muh racist south.
Its where I'm from. Good ol' Louisiana. And its racism is far too low for the reality of living there, given how living with blacks is so bad we just still segregate everything.
Nobody reaches adulthood without a handful+ of horrific experiences with black people planting completely logical and valid hatred into them. And its only years of white guilt indoctrination from Hollywood and schools that keep anyone from doing something about it.
I find race relations in the south better than the north. Northerners think they are so progressive and the blacks are insufferable up there.
In the south everyone knows where they stand a bit better. Just my two cents. I live in the south too.
Probably also depends on the area. The South is huge and not really a monolith.
I've found the North and West Blacks more insufferably annoying, but not actively hostile in a physical sense (politically they are). Whereas back home there is a very real chance of being physically assaulted just for existing near them. Their very existence in an area degenerates it into a ghetto the cops don't even bother with.
We all know where we stand, and its as enemies who have to live with each other.
