I'd go with yes, but bear in mind this generally applies to all F1 champions. It's as much, really more, of an engineering contest than a driver contest. I wouldn't say Hamilton has ever been a bad driver per se, but if he'd stayed at McLaren where he'd won his first championship, it would likely still be his only one.

Mercedes is not nearly “one of the worst” teams. Their car is improving rapidly and they’ve outperformed a lot of other constructors anyway.
