Someone once told me I was deflecting when I pointed out slavery in Africa and other parts of the world. I said nobody is denying American slavery but you choose to have a narrow focus because I guess it makes you feel special. He ignored me when I asked why he doesn’t have any anger towards the west African tribal leaders who basically had the slaves chained and ready to go for the Europeans
“Racism” needs a mythological structure in order to exist because it is a blanket statement to excuse actions. This is why we have Roots, which even the writer admits is intended to be mythological. It was always about race obsession not facts.
Totally agree. That’s why I now tell people the only one oppressing you is the one staring at you in the mirror. Another quote I like is “you may not control what happens to you, you are 100% in control of how you react”. Granted some people have it worse than others but history is full of people who found success despite horrible upbringings.
