DeSantis clearly has control over the Florida bureaucracy. What makes you think he will have control over the Federal bureaucracy?
Remember when the military actively lied to Trump about troops being withdrawn from Afghanistan when they actually weren't? Or the various employees of the Federal bureaucracies who were on record saying they were actively subverting Trump's efforts to implement his agenda?
Why would the Federal bureaucracy do anything different with DeSantis? And how would he handle them better?
We need stronger right-wing state governments willing and able to tell the Feds to fuck off. I would rather he stay where he is as an example of what a right-wing state can accomplish.
You put my thoughts into letters pretty well. I think a lot of Trump not doing something well or well enough was him being cockblocked. Him not having experience in politics probably also added to them, which he has now.
I think the biggest indictment against Trump's second term is that he continues to endorse neo-cons and other subversives in a way that suggests he hasn't learned very much from his first term.
He needs people close to him who are personally loyal to him. Honestly he'd be better off randomly appointing people who attend his campaign rallies. Lot of those folks would take bullets for him.
This is one reason I'm pessimistic about the Federal government in the short term: it's going to require someone absolutely ruthless to reign the bureaucracy in, and a person with that mindset hasn't appeared yet.
I think part of his endorsements are simply people who will most likely win anyway, so that he can appear to be a kingmaker. Don't know enough about US politics to be sure, but this is both beneficial from a political perspective, and fits in with being a populist.
I would assume he is vindictive enough to not endorse someone he is personally angry with for some reason.
this. his own appointees actively lied to him, even tried to set him up, or actively fucked him over, because that's just how deep the swamp goes. the CIA/FBI actively infiltrated his campaign team and cabinet with operatives. no way of knowing who he could trust. what makes anyone think desantis would sniff out the frauds any better?
