If you know anything about the sixties and seventies most people did not support the hippie movement or the anti-war movement. They didn't like war but they supported our troops then like now the most vocal people were the minority.
It was your average working class stiff that didn't support the Vietnam War the most. College educated people supported it more than those without degrees. Hippies as the face of war opposition has always been the left patting themselves on the back. They were a meme, and the colleges were and still are churning out far more nasty little neocons than peaceniks
