Being stuck on "party loyalty" is the first problem. It basically means a party can get away with whatever it wants with the loyalists, they'll never vote for those other stinkers.
I'd think it was a thing that might die with the last of the Silents and Boomers, but I think I'd be very wrong if I did. Some little voice is wanting to tell me that the under-20/20-something crowd are going to make .. well, I don't have a good metaphor right now, but yeah, if they're into "brand loyalty" ...
