Only when they can change the chromosomes and genes within every cell, then they can change gender.

that won't even really do it. I mean, what that would actually do is kill you. what you are talking about would require being "reborn". A deconstruction of your body and a reconstitution from new DNA. A literal destruction and rebirth.

Would even that be sufficient?

I can get blood donations and marrow transplants from an oppositely gendered person all day long, and it won't change my physiology by any appreciable margin. Replace my lungs, liver, kidneys, all of them now having the other DNA... it won't mark any notable change.

That's not how that works. You'd have to change your Y to an X in all your cells. Anyway, that foreign DNA is why organ rejection exists, and why transplant recipients need to be on drugs cocktails about as powerful as people with AIDS have to take. It isn't really just about the blood type; but once the cells start repairing themselves, I would imagine they'd be overwritten with your DNA.

Anyway, this therapy is still in the early stages, but they've already started to use it for to correct one or two types of genuine birth defect (that is, badly-coded DNA).
