Yeah, that's pretty fucked. The guy he punched was 77; no way that he didn't know he was going to seriously hurt him (although the old guy fucked around and found out, so not much sympathy there either).
I agree it's a shame to waste this kid's life in prison so how about this: a public flogging in front of the court house. The kid gets a lesson, get's to live his life, and everybody sees justice done.

He was accused of saying nigger by a nigger who murdered him. There's no proof he said nigger. Just the word of a murderer.
