Headline is clickbait. NATO is only supplying jets, not actually initiating combat operations or establishing a no-fly zone. It's escalation but not as bad as the headline implies.
Are there any Ukrainians that could fly these jets? Where would they even base out of? It's either another fake promise that can't seriously be fulfilled or a much greater escalation than implied.
There was talk in the last speculation of this where I got the idea if they are of certain Russian variety jets (Mig, Sukhoi, etc.) that Ukraine has pilots for them. Supposedly some former Eastern bloc areas have them.
I don't expect them to give up much useful if anything at all. Maybe some old worn out semi-retired stuff from the junk heap. Countries aren't going to give away shiny new fighter jets.
Mig-29s from Poland, who then based on talks and rumours could be supplanted by F-16s from America. Probably those older F-16s that are stored or mothballed somewhere. And until they arrive, Poland get a small amount of defense increase from the neighbouring countries.
Anyway, the MiG-29's are the ones the Ukrainians will get(if they follow with it through this time), as that will require the minimal amount of training. Obviously with the upgrades it received through the years, it will be a little while But it is better than giving the Ukrainians a plane they are not trained for or never flew.
I don't remember if it was the Romanian MiG-21s or the Polish MiG-29s that got overhauled by the Israelis.

They can recruit pilots from reddit.
