So equal opportunity in basketball just means a short person has to be really fucking good to make up for being short.
The common traits you identified among a certain group are the reason why the left wants "equity" aka "equal outcome", because actual equal opportunity puts blacks more in low-skilled, low-responsibility positions - which then causes racism.
What's actually needed is the opposite of "equity" - we need to enforce the sameness on the input side instead of the output side. For example, blacks do a lot better when there is discipline at levels that are too high for Europeans to tolerate and way too high for Asians. Separate education tracks. Or most of the problem can likely be overcome medically by countering the MAO-A gene variant that results in excess impulsiveness. But any solution would first require admitting the reality.
So how do we create a narrative that allows the people with no merit to maintain an illusion of "dignity" while still accepting that they will never be "on top"?
It used to be "shut up, work hard, don't be a dick and you get into heaven". But that narrative has been wounded by liberals and finished off by marxists.
Biggest problem with liberals is that they reward failure.
The differences are very real in aggregate, but they are not that great as to be insurmountable by many individuals. When not enough blacks get into college, instead of rewarding those Urkel blacks who studied and did the homework liberals lower the standard - rewarding the failures with scholarships and participation diplomas. Same thing with not holding people back grades for not learning, affirmative action, medicaid, welfare - it's all rewarding failure. Most of these are even designed to encourage failure.
The narrative needs to be rewarding effort.
I remember first watching a Persona lets play, and how foreign it was to hear them chant "we'll do our best!" whenever they'd be about to face challenges. Their culture is very competitive, but they're all in it together and they want even those with less ability to improve and try. It's not a zero-sum culture like ours. Even if you fail life's tests you can have dignity if you did your best, if you tried, if you put the effort in. You can be a 'lowly' janitor, not doing a particularly valuable job, and still have dignity if you are doing it well.
To bring this about we need to never accept excuses for failure.
When a black man passes out drunk in the drive-through, attacks the cop, steals a weapon, and aims it at the cop liberals say "but it's not his fault because racism" and "he didn't deserve to die". Sane people need to be loud in saying that, actually, he did deserve to die and it was his fault. When liberals say you shouldn't reject somebody for speaking ebonics at a job interview, they need to be informed that people who aren't capable of speaking even halfway properly aren't fit for the job. When the fast food employee complains about having to mop the floor "because racism" you say "because it's your job".
"Equal opportunity" is a synonym for merit.
