As for the fall, I've fallen a LOT on the ice. And usually fell on my back, with enough layers of clothing that I just rattled the ol' skelly a bit. First time in my life breaking a bone that needed tending to.
Getting the bad bits of stomach cut out helped a lot. What was worse was the oesophageal stricturing and weight loss I didn't need. No booze, no spices, but I don't miss that crap anyway. But at least when my lungs collapsed during the third surgery, the ventilator cleaned out all the air pollution and cigarette garbage out (three decades of the latter) from my lungs ... just in time. I used to have a deep, barking cough that started after I worked for a couple years in a plastics injection mold factory. :P If I still had that with this covid shit, I wouldn't be allowed anywhere.
