Where do you think it came from?
I don’t think it’s normal or natural per se, but the inversion point, for white voters, as opposed to only the 1%, seems to have come in the mid-60s/early-70s (discounting, for a minute, male “feminists” like L Frank Baum, and, ironically, people like Dr Seuss)…
So the question is, why? What was it about that era, where you had the Civil Rights movement, Detroit and Baltimore riots, etc, that cause whites (or white liberals) to start to turn against themselves, so much so that 40 years later, they would be among the main consumers of ghetto rap…
If we can answer that question, of why the inversion happened, which also coincides with the South flipping from Dixiecrat to Republican, then we may have at least some sort of answer…
The same thing happened in France, Germany and Australia, and less so in the UK, so clearly this wasn’t purely an American phenomenon, at that time…
