Oliver Stone is an establishment asset. JFK is a conspiracy theory that is not only socially acceptable to subscribe to but mildly encouraged. Regardless of what happened, the truth isn't a threat to the regime.
Now for my two cents. The grassy knoll is not needed. A less than 100 yard shot on a target moving at a very slow and consistent speed is laughably easy. Lee Harvey Oswald was a rabid commie that didn't need any prodding. If Oswald did get any support, it was at most in the form of intentionally bad security that would have been unknown to him. Jack Ruby was just a patriot who wanted to avenge his president. There would have a been long line to do what Ruby did if Obama or Trump had been assassinated.
Whether or not the alphabet soup did anything, it benefits them for people to suspect their involvement because it's a useful reputation when threatening powerful people.
This is actually a black pill but not for the reasons most think. There was a coverup of JFK but it was a fucked up combined effort by the US govt and the KGB. How could such a thing happen? Because Oswald was a KGB agent. In a moment of impulsivity he was ordered to kill JFK but the order was quickly rescinded because it was fucking lunacy, however Oswald either didn't get the stand-down order or ignored it. Neither the US nor the USSR wanted to start WW3, so they both covered it up.
This was happening at a time when the KGB was sending out a lot of double agents to penetrate the CIA, FBI etc. One of them - Yuri Nosenko - was an obvious plant and was exposed by US counter-intelligence but for reasons that nobody seems to be able to understand (and which to me points to high level penetration of the CIA by the KGB), this obvious double agent was accepted as genuine due to pressure from higher ups. One of the main "secrets" he came with was that the KGB has nothing to do with Oswald or the JFK assassination, all of which is now known to be a lie. Btw, this double agent went on to train the FBI counter-intelligence division.
The KGB's usual playbook for this kind of thing was to just blame the CIA for whatever it is that the KGB did, and that's what they did here. This is a red herring, though - look past it and you'll see the truly disturbing possibility that since the mid 1960s the US intelligence apparatus has been run by KGB agents.
Side note: the KGB almost managed to do this in the UK too. Look up the Cambridge Five.
Oswald was a CIA asset. He did what they told him to do. Buy an easily traced rifle? Shoot some dude's house? Leaflet against Castro? Go to USSR to deliver U-2 secrets (and get a trophy bride as a reward)? Shoot "at" the President? He did it without question.
Oswald was caught in a theater, a common meeting place for assets and handlers. Of the hundreds of "tips" that day? The Dallas police sent 1/3 of their manpower to the theater. They also had leaflets with Oswald's picture printed and distributed within hours... not so easy in pre-Kinko days eh?
& etc. There's just so many smelly things, and the "official story" sinks even more.
You think the CIA got their own asset to cripple their own highly classified surveillance program, effectively blinding them, and then try to kill their own president so that they then have to work full tilt to avoid WW3?
You think a man with a "sketchy" background can renounce his US citizenship, move to the USSR at the height of the cold war, get a Russian bride and come back without anyone batting an eye about it?
My aunt took her VW Van to Europe and drove around in the USSR in the early 70's for a few weeks. She was a Canadian and she still got interrogated by the RCMP for hours when she got back. Also when she drove out of USSR back into Germany too. Not Oswald tho!
The "official story" makes less sense than the "conspiracy theories" Ok? And the purpose of the Warren Commission was to prove a lone gunman did it, not to actually investigate anything.
