My co-worker was shocked that I have no plans on watching House of the Dragon since I was a big fan of GOT (before it crashed and burned). I really hope that the show doesn't do well, but Wheel of Time seems to be doing well sadly so I'm sure this one will as well. I'm sure a lot of people who hated the ending of GOT will happily watch this even though it is a prequel to a show that had a horrible ending. GRRM can't even finish his main series and he found time to write a history book. Mind boggling.
I fear the Amazon Lord of the Rings series will get lots of praise as well. For some reason I feel that if Christopher Tolkien was still alive he wouldn't have allowed it or would have made some major changes. If I remember correctly they also fired a Tolkien scholar.
Even ignoring how GoT went downhill fast once it started deviating from the existing books, how many cases have their been where people have made prequels to existing products and had them turn out better than the original?
None I can think of
Babylon 5: In the Beginning vs season 1.
Knights of the Old Republic.
I couldn't get through the first season, Bob Odenkirk is a great actor but him crying every other episode in obvious emmy bait was just grating.
I agree. Although that is both a prequel and a spin-off.
