Technically, the CDC announced this back in July when they said that they would stop pursuing an EUA at the end of the year. Frankly, rapid antigen tests are superior in every way. They're more accurate, faster, and less invasive. People have really only been using PCR tests out of ignorance at this point.
Rapid antigen tests are not less invasive. But they are cheaper, though.
They only go in the entrance to your nostrils. The PCR tests have to go way up into your sinuses.
At this point, I expect them to keep doing PCR because it gets them off.
Not necessarily. They can PCR nostril and saliva samples.
Ah, didnt know that. Its not the ssme in all countries.
Except that the government only subsidizes the PCR test. So when Joe Public goes to get tested, they see the RAT cost $20-$100 and the PCR is “free”.
Thank you, yes, this isn't new.
What I asked then, which I still don't have a good answer for, is:
When they say they need a test that can differentiate between covid and flu, does that mean they want to use a test that can identify both, or does that mean they want a test that will only show positive for covid?
Which is to say, does the PCR test show positives for just covid but can't identify the flu, or does it show positives for both?
Wish we had people around whose jobs it is to ask these queations of the CDC...
