Their entire marketing strategy for almost two decades now has been nostalgia. They make games for IPs that dads remember playing back in the 90s, and that they play now with their kids. None of their newer properties have ever taken off. They make their money off of Mario, Zelda and Pokemon. If they move their focus away from that, or worse, fuck with those characters, then there goes their entire customer base.
To be fair, Splatoon and Animal Crossing have been big movers for Nintendo as newer IP.
But you're right about their appeal to nostalgic fun. Most people who recollect most of the fun games they played from the late 1990s, other than Final Fantasy VII, it's usually something from the N64: Mario 64, Mario Kart 64 or Ocarina of Time.
Once that formula goes kaput, so does the majority of Nintendo's buying base.
The Woketards have had a laser-focus on gaying up the Legend of Zelda for some time now, and that will probably be the infiltrators main objective after they remove gender from Pokemon games and start adding pronoun crap to other Nintendo titles. From there, it's all a race to the bottom.
