It's certainly plausible that the events we've been told were at least exaggerated. Look at hate crime hoaxes today, and how even when the hoaxers are caught red-handed they say they were trying to spread awareness of the issue or "start a discussion" about hate crimes. Add on top of that the history was written by the victors (the Frankfurt school) and there would have been no incentive by anybody to correct the record. It's not that hate crimes don't take place, but the scale is vastly overblown to keep certain groups in power.
This is something a lot of people need to consider. Being a victim always was lucrative business. I mean look at Korea constantly reminding Japan to pay for retribution fee for what happened in Japanese occupation. This is why I'm very critical at Korea being so butthurt about Japanese Imperial flag.
