There's been tons of James Bonds. The Bourne Identity for instance, or Mission Impossible.
It's not about spy movies, Bond is an archetype of manly confidence in culture and that's why they want to destroy the character. Just like they destroyed Dr. Who as a icon of manly intelligence and wit. Or destroyed Jedi as paragons of manly stoicism.
They're not even making a spy movie, or a Bond movie. The entire point is destroy the icons.
I would agree, but Bond is largely representative of the masculine fantasy and served that perfectly. For that representation alone, I find any change to canonical Bond tropes yet another property lost to this shitty grey future.
