Years ago I decided to watch the old Star Trek series to see what it was like. Half the time I couldn't tell who the Klingon was in the room by face alone.
And that acting...especially in the first season...I almost shut it off multiple times.
Ronald D Moore created the Klingons everyone knows and loves, along with their warrior culture. The TOS Klingons were just random baddies that could be swapped out with the Romulans and nobody would notice.

Yeah, it was cold war era, and they were analogous to Russian spies.
The TNG Klingons represented more Mongolian warrior culture.
They later retconned a story behind the change. Same with the remodeled bald Klingons in Discovery .. they got retconned too.
