I think Patriots, at this point, is a little desperate for something to hold onto as evidence that the enemy is still hiding from them.

The T_D folks are fine people, but double-checking stuff and conspiracy mongering has always been there weakness.

Well, they've hit a few crazy conspiracies that turned out true. US funded WIV, for example.
The key is to distinguish between the crazy ones and the ones that have a theoretical possibility of being true.
