I agree with you that much is ignored, but when you provide a visual example to make a point, you try to use an example that will be understood by most people. Everyone can instantly visualize what that battle was like.
It's not my job to educate people about the lesser known military actions, especially when that isn't even the main topic being discussed.
You've for example got 2 Iwo Jima films and The Pacific TV series in the 2000s, a plentiful of visual references that are more modern than 1 film from 1998.
