You joke, but I have seen a depressing/disturbing amount of leftist on twitter who seem to think that holding down a long term relationship with a loving partner, involving give and take for shared happiness, is some sort of herculean task that makes you some god-tier romantic. Instead of, you know, literally the baseline.
This rings true for so much more in life. I have considered much of what I do to be the bare minimum which is acceptable, but my standards for the minimum are so much higher than everyone else's that I am perceived as a high achiever.
It depresses me that something as basic as showing up on time, sober, properly dressed, and ready to work, and actually working while I'm on the clock sets me apart.
Honestly, that's the big one. I totally get why Christians were losing their shit about every little vice that that came along. If you want to be poor forever, even if you do everything else right, all you have to do is: drink, smoke weed, smoke cigarettes, and gamble. You'll never get out of that hole.

I kinda feel like this is the real culture war. We've definitely lost that protestant work ethic, especially among the poor (excluding those who are crippled by obesity and mental health problems).
One of the more interesting things to hear out of European content creators is how they notice the differences between European cultures. The Brits, Swedes, and Germans are all extremely industrious; and they are driven effectively mad by the Italians, French, and Spanish who "regularly show up 4 hours late to work".
Imagine being 4 hours late and not getting fired.
The difference in mentality is pretty stark when Callum on The LotusEaters Podcast was complaining that a British government agency was setting up a "siesta" during the day because it was too hot. Obviously, in Spain it makes sense because it's 115 ^o F in the day in some places. But the idea of just fucking off for an hour in the middle of the day (and it's not lunch), sees insane to them.
I think the Left's desire to cultivate dependency is also about cultivating sloth which is a much more subversive method of control than many others. This is one of the reasons they cultivate this attitude of "hard work is for suckers and wage slaves".

Relationships require constant work. Your duty to your wife is like a constant job you have forever.
Work, duty, and a job.
3 things that every Leftist is incapable of.
