I had a classmate who was working on doing this twenty years ago. He spent all of lunch working with a muslim kid to try to get all the theater kids to get over the taboo. If you normalize the word you remove a lot of its power, or at least that seemed to be his reasoning at the time. It always stuck with me as a good move for improving race relations by simply defanging racial epithets.
