If you have any interest in shooting clays (or bird hunting) get a field barrel version then pick up a short barrel. Assuming a removable barrel like a Mossberg, the security barrel (18.5", no choke) is much cheaper to add (and easier to find) than the longer barrel, but the guns new cost about the same with either barrel.

That's why part of any prep should include the means to defend the prep.
Food, batteries, water, medical supplies, repair tools, resupply tools and defense/hunting tools are all prep of the same level.
